Projects of the dual career

Athletes often encounter difficulties when combining their sports career with education or work. Achieving a high level of sports performance from an athlete requires intense training and participation in competitions at home and abroad, which is difficult to balance with the challenges and constraints of the education system and the job market. In order to avoid a situation in which athletes are forced to decide between education and sports or work and sports, special arrangements are needed for athletes, in addition to their high motivation, dedication, endurance and responsibility. The arrangements should support the athletic career of athletes, protect their position and enable their education or work or facilitate the transition to a new career after the end of their sports career.

What is a dual career

  • The development of lifelong excellence of an individual athlete, through his goals in the field of sports, education and later the integration into the job market.
  • The dual career involves professional planning and organization of optimal basic conditions for the dual career of top athletes. Intermediation between all important stakeholders, especially in the fields of top sport, education and economy. Establishing communication and informing the athletes. Particular attention should be paid to specific target groups (recipients of Olympic medals, medals of world and European championships), but at the same time establishing equal conditions.
  • The implementation of the NOC SLO strategy, in line with the EU guidelines for the field of Dual Career and National Sports Programs 2014-2023

Guidelines for the dual career of athletes

As part of the DC4AC international project (http://www.dc4ac.si), which aims to promote the dual career of athletes in Europe (education, employment and financial incentives), a translation of the EU Guidelines for the Dual Career of Athletes was published. The translation was also attended by the Olympic Committee of Slovenia.
